Around 2 a.m., I decide I definitely have Braxton-Hicks contractions. I read every book and pamphlet I have on the subject, and decide to take a shower. All the books say that taking a shower makes false labor go away. I am in the shower about 2 minutes before the contractions start to come more frequently and with more intensity. Before long I am hanging onto the shower curtain rod for support, and I begin my “calming breaths”- 3 counts in, 3 counts out- which will continue until the birth of my child. So much for Braxton-Hicks.
